Agricultural pollution, saltwater intrusion and rampant real estate development are perpetuating a cycle of doom for the beating heart of South Florida. The everglades are one of the most unique ecosystems in the world hosting incredible biodiversity and providing habitat for dozens of endemic, endangered and threatened species. Less known, it is also the lifeline, providing safe drinking water for more 8 million Floridians.
The everglades remain a bustling ecosystem on the brink of demise. But the species here carry on. From bikers braving the South Florida sun to young gators navigating their new terrain; a day in the everglades is captured on camera.
