Career

My career began in South Florida where I worked closely with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) to report on hurricanes and sea level rise in South Florida. In the summer of 2022, I reported a series on Florida's inadequate building codes to withstand storm surge. Less than two months later, Hurricane Ian brought a storm surge of at least 13.8 ft along Fort Myers Beach, the highest surge ever recorded in Southwest Florida. Ian brought $112.9 billion in damages, making it the third-costliest hurricane in U.S. history, and killed 150 Floridians.

In 2022, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists awarded my work its highest honor; best-written reporting of that year.

As an Environmental Reporter and Fellow at the Arizona Republic, I reported closely alongside local, state, and federal leaders to understand and address how climate change was impacting the region and its residents. Most notably, my work included the battle for groundwater rights, how climate change and overuse was effecting the Colorado River, and impacts of climate change on public health.

In the summer of 2023, amid record-breaking temps, I produced an investigative series on heat in Phoenix. Through public records and climate data I discovered that heat killed more people in Maricopa County each year than any other climatic event, in the past decade. The series engaged national attention and supported congressional legislation to classify heat as a natural disaster.
